Get started with Digacon
Temes, one of our Junior Consultants, shared his eventful experiences from half a year of consulting with us.
My name is Temesgen Matewos and I have been working as a Junior Consultant at Digacon GmbH since 01.09.2021.
For me, the world of consulting was mostly unknown before I started at Digacon, although I was able to experience certain intersections in my previous jobs. Nonetheless, I was very excited to take on this new challenge and to live out my life in a new career.
I was welcomed at Digacon with open arms, both by the management and by my co-workers. Both the managers and the co-workers are very accommodating, the interaction with each other is very collegial, which is also due to the flat hierarchies. In the first few weeks, I always had a more seasoned colleague at my side, who also introduced me to the client's company on site, which made for an ideal start to the day-to-day involvement and acclimation to the consulting industry.
The helpfulness of the colleagues is immense, which made the start very pleasant. Because Digacon consists of a team with very practiced employees and young talents, I was always able to find a contact person who could empathize with my situation and help me to strengthen my core skills or show me how every part of a project, from start to finish, is constructed.
When things really got going and I was assigned a project, I was able to enjoy the daily tasks range of being a consultant myself. I had daily calls, coordinated with colleagues, and participated in process management. With the first project, I was given trust and responsibility, which also meant that the learning curve was steep, and I was able to gain great experience. Despite the very exciting initial phase, I was still given a lot of space so that I could develop without any worries.
The last team event in Croatia was greatly put together: we got to participate in workshops (PMO and SCRUM training), worked together on a concept for our onboarding expansion and got to know the new office in Zagreb, which is simply amazing. Despite the extensive program, there was enough time for joint dinners, sight-seeing and a nice balance between work and leisure time. The workshop content we took away is valuable and helpful for the upcoming projects, but especially the time with colleagues was so precious and made the team event so special.
My expectations of consultant life with an exciting workplace have always been confirmed by my participation so far and it is simply exciting to work in a young, dynamic team with experienced colleagues and the certainty that I pick up something new every day. The first 6 months have gone by so quickly and have been characterized by giving me a lot of space and time to acquire knowledge and adjust to the new job.
What makes Digacon so special is that the co-workers are happy to share their great insight and are incredibly helpful. I am really impressed by the quality of their performance in challenging environments, thus reaching that level is my goal.
Of course, I will attain a lot more in the coming months (and years), but I also see myself now being able to use my practice and skills and complete tasks independently.
